A-Team 40K

10 years ago a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Imperial underground. Today, still wanted by the Imperium, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team.

10 years ago, the Ordo Xenos assigned an Inquisitor named Morrison to investigate rumors of an alien cult in the Ionah system.  Upon arriving in the system, Morrison discovered that not only did the cult exist, but they were planning an armed uprising against the Imperium.  Morrison sent the word out for aid and was authorized to assemble several Deathwatch kill-teams in order to purge the planet of the alien threat.

With his teams assembled, Morrison ordered them to assault the headquarters of the alien cult and remove the Xenos infestation.  The battle was long and hard.  When the smoke cleared, the Deathwatch was victorious but every kill-team was destroyed in the fighting.  Only Alpha Team managed to survive.

Four days later, Alpha Team made its way back to base only to find Inquisitor Morrison murdered and the base burned to the ground.  They were then arrested by Imperial forces and charged with murdering Morrison and betraying their battle brothers.  Shortly after being placed in the Imperial stockade to await trial, Alpha Team disappeared without a trace.  Somehow, they managed to take back their armor and equipment, commandeer a ship and escape.  Even more miraculous, though it was obvious that many shots were fired, Alpha Team managed to get away without taking a single human life.

They emerged shortly afterwards as soldiers of fortune, hiring themselves out to anyone who can pay.  In time they developed a reputation for helping the needy and defenseless.  The Imperium, and especially the Deathwatch, still believe they are traitors and have dedicated their lives to hunting them down and seeing them executed.

Today the A-Team, as they are now called, have attained a sort of mythical status among the people of the Imperium.  Stories and rumors abound from all over the galaxy about their labors to help those in need.

The A-Team is consists of John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, a former Captain of the Imperial Fists and de facto leader, who was known for his unorthodox but effective strategic and tactical sense.  Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, an Ultramarines Scout Sergeant known for his cunning and uncanny ability to appropriate vehicles and equipment.  And Sergeant Baracus, a former Firedrake of the Salamanders Chapter.  A legend within the Chapter, he earned his Terminator Armor faster than any other recruit in Chapter history.  Like all Salamanders, Baracus is equal parts mechanic and soldier.  He serves as the heavy assault specialist in the group.

The unofficial fourth member of the A-Team is H.M. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock.  A techmarine of the Iron Hands chapter, he was the only member of Alpha Team not to be charged with treason in the assault on Ionah.  During the fighting against the Xenos, Murdock was shot in the back of the head.  He was carried back to base by his comrades and taken to an infirmary after the others were arrested.

The back portion of his skull and brain were damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced with cybernetic implants.  The effect this had on his mind is unclear.  He is believed to be either severely mentally unstable or extremely good at pretending to be so.  No one is sure which because he always appears to be perfectly lucid when the need arises - and bat-crap crazy the rest of the time.
This is a VERY rough draft of an idea I came up last night. I was watching Bring Back the A-Team and this just popped into my head. I dropped everything and put my ideas down before I forgot.

I'm a big fan of Old School and the A-Team was the most awesome-est show in the entire history of everything! WH40K seemed like a natural fit for them.

Lemme know what you think!

I have been a fan of the the A-team for over a year now. I've seen every episode that was ever made, and the new movie wasn't a bad remake. But this is a perfect adaptation to the far flung future of Warhammer 40k. You've matched the mentalities of the characters perfectly. I found your description of H.M. Murdock particularly accurate, not to mention sidespliting. I cant wait to see how your first story turns out!

In the last season of the original A-team, Hannibal and co. are picked up by a General Stockwell, a master of covert operations, who garuntees their services in return for complete absolution sometime in the future, however far-off that may be. Perhaps an allusion to an Inquistor General of the Ordo Xenos taking the team under his wing, and feeding them the occasional assignment? You can always check out the complete list of episodes on Hulu if you need inspiration.

Keep up the hard work!
